Witney has always been associated with the woollen blanket industry. At one time there were five blanket factories in Witney but in 2002, the closing of Early’s – the town’s last factory – ceased all production in the town.

Witney is associated with numerous famous people. David Cameron, Conservative PM was an MP for Witney and Red Dwarf actor Robert Llewellyn attended Henry Box School and was expelled.
