Brief

Our client required crisp visuals throughout a long, characterful function room for a festive dinner and awards presentation. The brief called for a main projection surface with identical content relayed to additional screens so guests at the far end would have the same viewing experience.

Our AV Setup

• Primary display: 10ft rear‑projection screen

• Projector: 8,000‑lumen Epson ultra‑short‑throw (UST)

• Relay displays: 2 × 65″ screens

• Signal & distribution: SDI throughout with our usual Decimator distribution at the front‑of‑house

• Lectern: Brushed aluminium lectern

Room Layout & Positioning

• The two 65″ screens were positioned inside the bay window openings. This kept hardware as out of the room as possible while providing clear sightlines for guests seated further back.

• The UST projector was carefully placed inside a fireplace to achieve the required throw distance while keeping the projection screen close to the wall—vital in this room’s limited footprint.

• We selected rear projection to minimise floor space in front of the screen and avoid the chandelier with the top edge of the projection surface.

Signal Flow & Control

• Single source to multi‑display: Content was delivered to the projector and both 65″ relays via SDI, ensuring robust, long‑run signal integrity across the room.

• Front‑of‑house distribution: Our Decimator hardware handled conversion and distribution, keeping switching tidy and reliable.

• Unified content: All displays mirrored the same feed so the presentation, award slides, and any festive visuals remained consistent across the space.

Challenges We Solved

• Room length: Using two relay screens ensured guests at the far end received the same detail as those near the stage.

• Period features & tight space: A fireplace‑mounted UST and rear projection kept equipment discreet and clear of architectural features.

• Overhead obstructions: Projector screen height and placement were tuned specifically to avoid the central chandelier while maintaining image geometry.

Result

Guests enjoyed bright, legible visuals throughout dinner and the awards show, with a tidy footprint that respected the venue’s aesthetics. The client appreciated the discreet look and the consistent experience across the room.
