When clear communication matters at an equestrian event, the audio system has to do more than simply be loud. It needs to cover the whole arena evenly, keep announcements intelligible, and do it all without unsettling the horses.

For this indoor horse show and demonstration day at Kingston Maurward, AVE Services supplied a complete 100V audio solution designed for a large showground environment. The aim was straightforward: give riders, organisers and spectators clear, consistent sound across the arena, while keeping overall volume under control.

To achieve that, our team installed two speaker towers fitted with six horns to project audio across the indoor showground. We also added extra speakers to create more even coverage throughout the space. That meant no need to push the system too hard in one area, helping us keep levels lower and more comfortable for both people and show horses.

This kind of arena audio system is especially useful for equestrian events, where speech clarity is essential for demonstrations, rider instructions, announcements and commentary, but harsh or uneven sound can quickly become a problem. A balanced setup makes all the difference.

Alongside the main PA, we supplied four Sennheiser headset microphones for the riders and presenters, supported by our long range antenna system. This gave them reliable coverage and genuine freedom to move around the full arena without worrying about signal dropouts. For events like this, dependable headset microphone hire, long range wireless microphones and professional radio mics are not optional extras. They are what allow the day to run properly instead of descending into acoustic chaos.

We also provided a handheld microphone for the commentator, giving the event team a simple and dependable way to handle announcements and audience communication. This can be particularly useful during demonstrations, presentations and any Q&A microphone system moments where flexibility is needed on the day.

At front of house, we used a digital Yamaha desk to manage the system and keep the audio clean. By applying compression and gating to the microphones, we reduced the noise floor and kept unwanted bangs, knocks and handling noise to a minimum. In a busy equestrian environment, that extra control helps maintain a more polished sound without distracting riders or spectators.

A PC balancing box was also used to manage the audio feed from a laptop, making sure playback sources were properly integrated into the system. Whether that is music, event stings, presentation audio or supporting content for a demonstration, getting those inputs right is a small detail that saves a lot of grief later.

The end result was a controlled, reliable 100V arena audio system that supported the full event from rider demos to commentary and announcements. Coverage was strong across the indoor space, speech stayed clear, and the lower overall volume helped create a more suitable environment for the horses.

Projects like this are a good example of how professional event audio needs to adapt to the setting. Equestrian venues are not the same as conference rooms or concert halls. They need careful speaker placement, dependable wireless systems, and a setup that supports movement, commentary and audience communication without overwhelming the arena.

Whether the event is indoors or out, the goal stays the same: clear sound, dependable coverage and a system built around how the day actually works.
