At St Mary’s Kingsclere, we delivered a discreet funeral relay solution designed to support guests viewing the service on a remote screen in a separate room, while keeping the main church space calm, respectful, and free from intrusive cabling.
For this setup, we used a single-camera system built around a Blackmagic 4K paired with a 50mm prime lens. The camera was positioned on a tripod on the balcony at the rear of the church, next to the organist. This gave us a strong, respectful view of the service while keeping the equipment out of the way of mourners and the clergy.
To send the picture feed to another room around 60 metres away, we used a Decimator for signal conversion to SDI, then ran the signal over an armoured fibre line. Using a single fibre cable meant the wiring stayed neat and largely hidden as it followed the line of the pews, helping us maintain a clean and tidy installation throughout the church.
This kind of funeral relay is a practical option for churches and venues where guests may need to watch from an additional room or overflow space. It also works well for memorial relay requirements where a remote screen is needed without filling the building with visible cabling or bulky equipment.
The church handled the sound using its existing PA system and microphones, which allowed the local audio setup to remain familiar to the venue team while we focused on the video relay side of the production. Keeping the responsibilities clear helped the day run smoothly and reduced the amount of additional equipment needed in the main church.
Projects like this show how effective a simple, well-planned funeral AV setup can be. With the right camera position, reliable signal conversion, and SDI over fibre, it is possible to create a respectful and dependable link between spaces without distracting from the service itself.
At St Mary’s Kingsclere, the result was a tidy and unobtrusive remote screen solution that supported the day exactly as intended: clear picture, hidden cabling, and a setup that stayed in the background while the focus remained where it should be.
