Every summer, Marlborough hosts a huge jazz festival with local entertainment venues playing host to live jazz music over one weekend. Every October the high street is closed for the Marlborough mop fair, which began as an employment fair for agriculture workers but is now a travelling funfair.

Eglantyne Jebb, the founder of Save the Children, taught at St Peter’s Junior School in Marlborough. It is said that she was inspired to start Save the Children in 1919 after seeing the levels of poverty amongst her students. William Golding, the Nobel Prize-winning author of Lord of the Flies grew up in the town.
